The Domain is an alternative to Austin's busy downtown, bound by Loop 1, Braker Lane, Burnet Road and Union Pacific Railroad. With 700,000 square feet of dining, shopping, hotels, offices and residential communities, it is one of Austin's most ambitious projects, set to be completed over three phases of development scheduled to last until the end of 2018.

The Domain is North Austin's new downtown, integrating retail, hotel and residential facilities to offer residents and visitors modern amenities and convenience without the need to travel long distances. Not surprisingly, it is also gaining a status as an important hub to soak in Austin's atmosphere and experience some of the city's cool and weird quirks amidst the upscale stores, boutiques and studios.

The Domain has something for everyone in terms of variety and price points.  Burberry, Tiffany & Co and Victoria's Secret co-exist with H&M and Forever 21.  Plush restaurants share space with economical food joints. Feeling hungry?  You have a compelling choice of restaurants, from American style, Italian, Tex-Mex and Thai to sports bars, beer bars, wine bars, juice bars and gelato shops.

Doesn't let you down

The only drawback of exploring The Domain is that you'll have to do quite a bit of walking around. People love strolling around and window-shopping here bImage titleecause the area is clean, well-maintained and doesn't get so crowded as to make you feel claustrophobic. There's also the convenience of parking garages in proximity, some curbside parking and several free parking opportunities at assorted garages. Apartments and condos lend The Domain a more intimate, community feel.  It comes down to the thoughtful landscaping that creates a relaxing feel despite the pace of activity at The Domain.

Offices and residences

There are a range of accommodation options, from hotels to apartment complexes, condos and residential communities.  Some are just a few miles from downtown Austin and minutes from IBM, Dell and National Instruments. The Domain is also occupied by HomeAway Inc. and Q1 Media, which has featured on Forbes' list of the most promising American companies.  Late last year, Amazon and Facebook signed office leases at The Domain in a move that is expected to create hundreds of jobs in North Austin.
