Schools and Entertainment

Two of the most important amenities that come to the mind of any homebuyer are schools and the kind of entertainment they can expect. Of course, you think first about the home and its location but, there are people who inquire about educational opportunities for their kids and entertainment facilities for themselves before finalizing the deal to buy a home. Let's find out what's in store for you in south Austin.

Educational Opportunities

South Austin has lots of high quality schools and colleges that provide quality education to your kids. In particular,  James Bowie High School has received awards for excellence in studies from the Texas Education Agency. William B. Travis High School is the oldest High School opening its doors  in 1953. The oldest educational institution in south Austin is St. Edwards University, a private university offering undergraduate courses in more than 70 disciplines. You also have choices for charter and private schools in the area.

Entertainment Opportunities

One thing you can be sure about when moving to south Austin is opportunities for fun and recreation with entertainment in the form of theaters, outdoor shows and concerts held in Zilker Park. You can also enjoy live music at the Continental Club on South Congress Avenue, Saxon Pub, Hill's Cafe, Stubb's Bar-B-Q, an ABGB on Oltorf Street.

If drama is your passion, the ZACH Theater holds performances for local talent. The Zilker Hillside Theater organizes live musicals during its annual summer shows and has the longest running outdoor musical show in the United States.

If you love fairs and festivals, south Austin has its share of outdoor entertainment opportunities.  Enjoy the Austin City Limits Music Festival every fall with big performers such as Drake, Radiohead, and The Killers. Throughout the year, Zilker park is used for many events such as The Trail of Lights and Blues on the Green.
